On the occasion of Rachel Rose's first solo exhibition in the UK, Serpentine Galleries are delighted to announce a new Limited Edition print by the artist.

This print is a palimpsest. It is part of an on-going series where the artist overlays different historical forms of communication by collaging together ancient typographies, drawings and the artist’s own sketches. This layering of disparate times is reflective of how Rose treats her video and audio works – collaging together moving image and sound, from a variety of sources, such as found footage, archival material and original sequences.

Within the last few years, Rachel Rose has emerged as a video artist who creates visually poetic and multi-layered narratives. By utilising complex audio and video editing techniques, Rose explores the interwoven nature of history, memory and geography, and tackles the urgent ecological issues of humanity’s changing relationship to the natural world and the advancement of technology.

Her Serpentine exhibition Palisades is a site-specific installation centred around two of Rose’s recent video works, Palisades in Palisades (2014) and A Minute Ago (2014), as well as a new sound piece, an extension of the soundtrack from Palisades in Palisades. The exhibition transforms the historic building of the Serpentine Sackler Gallery into an immersive, polyphonic environment.

Rachel Rose was born in 1986 and lives and works in New York. Recent exhibitions include Visitors, Governor’s Island, New York (2015); Cloud Cover, CCS Bard College, Hessel Museum, Annandale-on-Hudson, New York (2015); The Importance of Being a (Moving) Image, National Gallery, Prague (2015); The Great Acceleration, Taipei Biennial (2014); Phantom Limbs, Pilar Corrias Gallery, London (2014); A Minute Ago, High Art, Paris (2014); Chance Motives, SculptureCenter, New York (2013); Geographies of Contamination, David Roberts Art Foundation, London (2013); and Uncanny Valleys, Electronic Arts Intermix, New York (2013).
