This beautifully-illustrated book captures the inspiration and creative processes behind Sou Fujimoto's unique design, with essays by Niklas Maak and Julia Peyton-Jones as well as a conversation between the architect, Julia Peyton-Jones and Hans Ulrich Obrist.

Fujimoto has completed a number of buildings in his native Japan, yet this is the first time he has built a structure in the UK. His built structures have focused on alternative ways of constructing both domestic and public spaces, blurring the boundaries between spaces, connecting spaces and forms in new and remarkable ways. Continuing these investigations, the design of the 2013 Pavilion, the thirteenth commission in the Serpentine's annual Pavilion series, was based on the concept that geometry and constructed forms could meld with the natural and the human. Its translucent form, at once organic and geometric, presents a sensitive response to the site and its surroundings that suspends visitors in a space between the built and the natural.
